NORTH DAKOTA GEOGRAPHIC ALLIANCE 2006 ANNUAL MEETING The North Dakota Geographic Alliance held its 2006 Annual Meeting on May 31, June 1, and June 2 in Dickinson, North Dakota. The program on Wednesday, May 31 consisted of North Dakota teacher volunteered miniworkshops, keynote presentations, and short trips to visit Dickinson museums and cultural centers, including a visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Center. A SEEDS OF CHANGE workshop and Southwest North Dakota agriculture tour were held on Thursday and Friday, June1 and 2. The North Dakota Geographic Alliance offered one-semester hour of workshop graduate credit each for North Dakota teachers who attended two days of meeting activities and wrote a reflective essay describing the experience. The North Dakota Geographic Alliance also offered a two-semester hour graduate credit option for North Dakota teachers who attended all three days of Meeting activities and who also wrote a North Dakota Geographic Alliance Magazine article related to the Meeting program. ********************************************************** SEEDS OF CHANGE WORKSHOP AND FIELD TOUR (Southwest North Dakota) In cooperation with the North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom Council the North Dakota Geographic Alliance offered a CREATIVE WAYS TO PLANT THE SEEDS OF CHANGE Workshop and field tour on June 1 and 2, 2006. This activity was based in Medora. June 1 activities were a workshop designed to introduce North Dakota teachers to the CREATIVE WAYS TO PLANT THE SEEDS OF CHANGE workbook designed and published by the North Dakota Geographic Alliance and the North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom Council. Maxine Trotter and Bonny Berryman and Geraldeen Rude, workbook authors, were the instructors. All workshop participants received a copy of the workbook that includes hundreds of lesson plan ideas. June 2 activities consisted of a tour of southwest North Dakota agricultural producers and processors that illustrated ideas presented in the workbook and workshop. NORTHWEST NORTH DAKOTA AGRICULTURE FIELD TRIP In cooperation with the North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom Program the North Dakota Geographic Alliance will hold a two-day Northwest North Dakota Agriculture field trip for teachers on August 16 and 17, 2006. This trip will be similar to the highly successful 2004 and 2005 Northwest North Dakota Agriculture Tours and will use the same leaders. The Eastern North Dakota Tour will be based in Mayville and will be led by Phil Murphy. *************************************************** Note: At the May 31st North Dakota Geographic Alliance Board meeting the Board voted to suspend publication of the North Dakota Geographic Alliance Magazine following volume 5, number 4. The Board also did not approve any program plans for the 2006-2007 academic year and 2007 summer other than to spend the year conducting planning activities. |
